Dogs truly are a man’s best friend. If you have a canine companion then you know they are always happy to see you, there for you when you’re feeling down, and always willing to protect you — no matter how big (or small) the threat. With a friend this loyal, it’s only natural you want to ensure they live a long and happy life.
Unfortunately, air pollution is all around us — dust, smog, and smoke are creating problems for us and our furry friends. Maybe you have never thought about air pollution affecting your dog, but they breathe the same air we do. When you have a hard time breathing, or find yourself coughing and sneezing more than usual, your dog is also affected.
There is something you can do about it. In today’s blog from K9 Mask®, we want to discuss five different ways that our masks can help dogs by filtering out pollution particles and allergens. Keep reading to learn more, and if you’re concerned about the safety of your pet, shop K9 Mask® today!
Toxic air threats are all around us. Depending on your situation, some of them may be the result of living in a congested city with thousands of vehicles giving off emissions. In other circumstances, air threats are the cause of major ecological events like fires and volcanoes. Now, you can protect your best friend with a mask that is specifically designed for them. The following are five ways K9 Mask® works to protect your pet.
Filters Out the Smallest Particles
Our K9 Mask® uses a PM 2.5 filter. This means that the smallest toxic particles are filtered out of the air. In fact, 2.5 refers to the size and the letters PM refer to the term “particulate matter”. In the case of our air filter masks for dogs, PM 2.5 means that our masks filter out particles that are larger than 2.5 micrometers in width. How big is 2.5 micrometers? According to the EPA, it’s about 30 times larger than the average human hair.
Filters Out 95% of the Smallest Particles
Not only do our air pollution masks for dogs help filter out some of the smallest airborne particles, but they are also extremely effective at doing so. The filters we use meet N95 rating standards established by the FDA, CDC, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This means that when your dog wears a K9 Mask®, up to 95% of all non-oil based particulate air matter will be filtered out. That’s a lot of protection in one little mask!
Activated Carbon Filter
As an added layer of protection for your dog, our masks also contain an activated carbon filter. Activated carbon is a material used to filter harmful chemicals from the environment. It is composed of black, carbon-rich granules that trap contaminants as they pass by. The benefit of wearing a mask that utilizes multiple types of filtering components is that it will remove more kinds of contaminants, and a larger amount of them. With regard to activated carbon, this filtering material is particularly good at absorbing harmful, poisonous gases that N95 filters may not be able to capture.
Panting Exhale Valve
Dogs release heat through panting, so you wouldn’t want to put something over a dog’s mouth that would prevent them from being able to do so effectively. If you tried to put another type of covering over your dog's mouth, there’s a chance he could overheat or not get enough oxygen. However, with K9 Mask®, we’ve included a panting exhale valve as part of its smart design. This allows dogs to do what is natural to help keep them cool while still protecting them from dangerous environmental conditions.
Although reflector panels on your dog’s air filtration mask may seem like a minor, insignificant detail, it just goes to show that we’ve tried to think of every possible way to keep your dog safe. If you and your pet are involved in a crisis that happens at night, or you lose power, you’ll be able to keep track of your dog easily, even in the most dimly lit environment.
